Geocaching treasure in Weston-super-Mare

Looking for something fun to do that doesn’t break the bank?

Why not try geocaching. Its great fun, free and a great way to explore the outdoors.

The geocaching craze sees keen treasure hunters and hobbyists attempt to track down hidden items, known as geocaches, by using GPS coordinates. There are almost 2.5 million geocaches hidden around the world and more than six million players.

Weston BID have set up a trail; called the Love Weston trail, across the town centre and seafront consisting of 10 different hidden locations – called ‘caches’.

The caches contain a logbook, so that the finder can input their details and the date they discovered the cache. The boxes may also contain low-value trinkets for trading.

Steve Townsend, Town Centre and BID Manager said “This fun ‘treasure hunt’ is a great way to get active and to explore Weston town centre and seafront. I hope many people enjoy the trail and wish them the best of luck in finding the geocaches”

How to take part in the Geocache:

  1. Download an app called Geocaching – free trial version available online for all smart phones.
  2. Log onto the geocaching page using the app and click ‘find trails’ or ‘find geocaches’.
  3. Look for ‘Love Weston’ and then start the trail.
